Heroic is leaving Dota2 discipline

Today, I bring the sad news: Heroic is leaving the Dota 2 discipline. The Norwegian organization officially cited long-term financial sustainability concerns as the reason, and I don't understand why they are in such a rush, since they've already qualified for DreamLeague Season 29.
More than that, they could've qualified for the EWC, and I am pretty sure they could either get a direct invite to The International 2026 or would most likely win the qualifiers for it. It's especially painful when you consider that 2025 was a big year — they finished 5th at The International, equalling the highest placement ever achieved by a South American team.

But let's get to the questions:
What will happen to the roster?

All players and staff have been released from their contracts, and the roster is free to explore new opportunities. The team intends to stay together and continue competing independently. Which is exactly what I expected — they will compete without a tag (like South America Rejects did), or an SA organisation will pick them up.
They must perform well in the DreamLeague and maybe secure a direct invite to the EWC. I don't believe that they will disband and try to join a different SA mix. This roster has too much history together to just fall apart like that.
What about the Heroic Organization?
I don't know why they decided to get rid of the Dota 2 discipline, but my guess is money. In their official statement, they acknowledged that despite the roster delivering strong results and building a genuine fanbase, the division ultimately failed to meet financial expectations.
Which is weird, because in those 2 years that they've been in the scene, they won ~$1.4 million. And it's not just prize money — they were an ambassador SA team, they had content, they had viewers, they had a story worth telling.
But I guess at the end of the day, running a Dota 2 division is expensive, and if the sponsors aren't there, the math just doesn't add up. Honestly, it reminds me of Team Secret leaving earlier this year. The game is bleeding organizations.
What will happen with the EPT points?

They had 360 EPT points, so by ESL rules, those points will be transferred to the players. Meaning that Yuma, TaiLung, Wisper, Thiolicor, and KJ all get a share of those points.
So, if they stick together and get like a 3rd place in the DreamLeague, they can qualify DIRECTLY to the EWC 2026. And honestly, looking at how they performed at PGL Wallachia Season 8 — 7th-8th place, but they were competitive in almost every map — I think they have a real shot.
Don't sleep on TaiLung either. The kid reached 11k MMR at just 14 years old and broke into the top 100 in Europe on 180 ping. He is a generational talent, and he will find a home.
Final thoughts
It's sad, honestly, it's really sad when a big org is leaving the game that I love so much. I was never a hardcore fan of Heroic, but now, when I think back, they really had some of the most memorable moments — they became the first South American team to ever win an international LAN when they took PGL Wallachia Season 2 in 2024.
The 3 farming cores, the throws, Wisper going absolutely feral in the offlane — it was all so uniquely them. And now it's gone, just like that.
I hope the boys find a new home soon. They deserve it.
