How Player and Team Data Works
Player rankings
The player rankings are built from real tournament results, in this order of importance:
- EPT points — Valve's official points for tournament finishes.
- Placement score — every finish earns points, multiplied by the prize money for that place / $10,000. So a final at a $1M event outranks a final at a $175K one.
- Prize earnings — the tiebreaker.
| Place | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 |
| 2 | 75 |
| 3–4 | 50 |
| 5–6 | 30 |
| 7–8 | 15 |
| 9–12 | 8 |
| 13–16 | 4 |
| 17+ | 2 |
A player gets the result of the team they played for at that event, based on transfer dates. Leaving a team doesn't take old results away or hand out new ones.
Player pages
- Pro stats — KDA, GPM and most-played heroes from tracked pro games (OpenDota per-game data).
- Public games and rank — recent matches, wins and losses and rank from OpenDota. Refreshed on a rotation: every player once every two days.
- Tournaments — placements and prize money with the team they played for at the time.
- Bio — I write these myself.
Rosters and status
Every player has a status: active, benched or inactive. I set it from roster news. Team rosters and the compare tool only show active players, so stand-ins and benched players don't get mixed in with the starting five.
I log transfers myself too, with dates — that's what the player rankings use to know who played where.
Team pages
- ELO and its history — how it's calculated.
- Results and picks — every tracked series and my accuracy in this team's matches.
- Drafts — the heroes the team picks and bans most, and what opponents pick and ban against them, from tracked pro games.
- Rivalries — teams they've met 3+ times (how head to head works).
A team's division (1, 2 or Mix) is set by me, based on the level it actually competes at. It can move either way.
Team earnings
Earnings add up the prize distributions of tournaments on the site. Renamed teams are folded into their main team, so a name change doesn't split the money into two rows. Only tournaments I track count — it's not a team's complete prize history.
