zzq

Zhang "zzq" Ziqiang (born November 1, 1997) is a Chinese professional Dota 2 hard support currently playing for Team Resilience. At 28 years old, ZZQ is one of the more underrated position 5 players in the Chinese scene—a seven-year grinder who never quite got the team his individual quality deserved until Team Zero brought him to The International 2024, where analysts started comparing him to XinQ. He's now heading to TI 2026 with Team Resilience as the first seed out of China.

Career

zzq started in May 2019 with EHOME.Immortal, spending a year and a half grinding qualifiers without breaking through. Phoenix Gaming, in October 2020, gave him his first real results—the DPC 2021 Season 2 China Lower Division title and second place at the Perfect World Dota 2 League Season 1. When Phoenix dissolved after failing to qualify for TI 2021, zzq went back to EHOME for another year of DPC grinding. More qualifiers, more near-misses. That cycle continued through 2022 and into 2023, when he joined Team Zero in May.

Team Zero was the breakthrough. The team failed to qualify for TI 2023 and spent most of 2024 bombing out of qualifier stages. But they kept going—and earned a ticket to The International 2024 anyway. What happened there surprised everyone. Team Zero topped Group C, sharing points with Team Falcons. Analysts started drawing comparisons between ZZQ's support play and XinQ—one of the most technically gifted position 4/5 players China has ever produced. They finished 13th-16th and earned $38,000, which doesn't sound like much, but the Group C performance was what people remembered. Team Zero disbanded in October 2024, and ZZQ went through Titan briefly, then the Yakult Brothers/Tearlaments stack in December 2025, which collapsed in March 2026 after poor qualifier results. Team Resilience came together in April 2026. First seed in the TI 2026 China qualifier.

Clockwerk, Bane, and Disruptor are control heroes that disrupt enemy patterns and protect the carry. ZZQ plays hard, supporting the disciplined Chinese way: structured, position-aware, built around enabling the team rather than making individual plays. The XinQ comparison that surfaced at TI 2024 wasn't about mechanics—it was about game sense and positioning under pressure. For a player who spent five years in the Chinese domestic circuit without anyone paying attention, getting that comparison on the biggest stage in the game is meaningful.
