Alchemist
The sacred science of Chymistry was a Darkbrew family tradition, but no Darkbrew had ever shown the kind of creativity, ambition, and recklessness of young Razzil. However, when adulthood came calling he pushed aside the family trade to try his hand at manufacturing gold through Alchemy.

In an act of audacity befitting his reputation, Razzil announced he would transmute an entire mountain into gold. Following two decades of research and spending and preparation, he failed spectacularly, quickly finding himself imprisoned for the widespread destruction his experiment wrought. Yet Razzil was never one to take a setback lightly, and sought escape to continue his research.

When his new cellmate turned out to be a fierce ogre, he found just the opportunity he needed. After convincing the ogre not to eat him, Razzil set about carefully concocting a tincture for it to drink, made from the moulds and mosses growing in the prison stone work. In a week's time, it seemed ready. When the ogre drank the potion, it flew into an unstoppable berserker rage, destroying the cell bars and exploding through walls and guards alike.

They soon found themselves lost somewhere in the forest surrounding the city with a trail of wreckage in their wake and no signs of pursuit. In the tonic's afterglow, the ogre seemed serene, happy, and even eager. Resolving to work together, the pair set off to collect the materials needed to attempt Razzil's Alchemic transmutation once more.

The longer the concoction brews, the more damage it deals and the longer the stun. Alchemist is faster while charging the concoction. After 5 seconds, the brew reaches its maximum damage and stun time. However, after 5.5 seconds, the concoction will explode on Alchemist himself if not thrown.

- You can deny yourself with this skill.
- Unstable Concoction cannot be disjointed and once thrown Unstable Concoction stops brewing.
- Unstable Concoction explosion damages heroes and creeps.
A silver lining to the failure of turning a mountain into gold, this volatile solution has destructive potential.

When to Pick Alchemist?
Pick Alchemist when you have a safe lane that lets you farm like a madman and your team needs a fat right-click monster who hits item timings nobody else can dream of. He shines in games where you can get early Radiance + Aghanim’s and just outfarm the entire map while your team stalls. Great with supports who can set up kills or protect you (strong laners, not greedy ones).
Avoid him in heavy early aggression lineups that will shut your lane down (strong dual lanes with silences, burst, or mana burn like Skywrath, Silencer, or Viper). He also feels miserable if the enemy has multiple mobile heroes who jump you before Chemical Rage or if the game turns into constant chaotic fights where you can’t stack Greevil’s Greed properly.
In the current 7.41a patch, he got nerfed a bit on base movement speed and greed gold, so he’s not as braindead broken as before—you actually need to farm well.
Tips & common mistakes
- Stack and farm multiple camps at once with Acid Spray — don’t just sit in one lane like a potato waiting for creeps to come to you.
- Don’t throw Unstable Concoction too early without setup—charge it properly or you’ll just waste mana and look stupid.
- Level Greevil’s Greed early and never stop last-hitting — every missed creep is money you’re throwing away.
- Stop building full carry items every single game — sometimes your team needs you to buy utility like Crimson Guard or Pipe instead of another 6-slotted monster.
- Use Chemical Rage aggressively in fights for the regen and attack speed, but don’t pop it just to farm faster if you’re about to get jumped.
- Watch your mana in the early game — Alchemist is surprisingly mana-hungry before items; don’t spam everything.
- Don’t afk farm when your team is dying left and right — one good fight with your big networth can end the game faster than 10 more minutes of jungle.
- Aghanim’s Scepter is strong right now for the team buff and your own damage — don’t sleep on giving one to your carry if you’re ahead.
Summary
Alchemist is still the greediest bastard in Dota—he farms faster than anyone, hits disgusting item timings, and turns into an unkillable rage machine under Chemical Rage. In 2026 he’s not as free as before the nerfs, but if you actually know how to last-hit and stack camps, he can single-handedly win games by out-farming and out-carrying everyone. Just don’t pick him and then play scared or feed early—commit to the greedy playstyle or pick something else.
