Akashi
Eljohn Canonigo Andales
Biography
Very little reliable information has been published about Akashi’s childhood or introduction to Dota 2. His first recorded tournament results came in 2020, before he became a regular name in the Filipino scene with Ground Zero and GrindSky Esports during 2021 and 2022.
The important thing is that his rise was gradual. Akashi did not appear from nowhere and immediately join Talon. He spent years playing smaller Southeast Asian tournaments, building his reputation as a high-MMR carry before Polaris Esports finally gave him a stable platform.
Career
Akashi joined Polaris in November 2022 and helped the team earn promotion from the DPC’s second division. The roster struggled after reaching Division I, but Akashi’s performances were strong enough to earn him an opportunity with Talon Esports at the end of 2023.
Talon became the defining team of his career. In June 2024, they swept Aurora 2–0 to qualify for The International. Akashi dominated the deciding series on Weaver, finishing the two games with 12-2-7 and 14-3-10 scores while leading the final map in net worth. Talon eventually finished 13th–16th at TI2024, but Akashi had reached Dota’s biggest tournament—and he had done it as the only Filipino player at the event.
One year later, the story became even better. Akashi joined Team Nemesis and qualified for TI2025 with an all-Filipino roster featuring Mac, Raven, Jing, and Erice. Nemesis came through the open qualifiers and then defeated Akashi’s former team, Talon, 2–1 in the regional final. They finished last at TI, but nobody expected this roster to qualify in the first place. Getting there was the achievement.
Execration
Akashi joined Execration in May 2026. The team finished third in the Esports World Cup SEA qualifier, fourth in the TI2026 regional qualifier, and 9th–12th at Games of the Future. Close—but never close enough.
Within the roster, Akashi is the obvious late-game win condition. Bob and Tino must create a stable map; Shanks and cml must protect the lanes; Akashi must turn that space into a game-winning item advantage. Simple formula. Much harder to execute.
Playstyle
Akashi is a traditional safe-lane carry with a large pool of farming cores. His most-played professional heroes include Luna, Templar Assassin, Monkey King, Morphling, Nature’s Prophet, Terrorblade, Gyrocopter, and Faceless Void.
He is strongest when given control of the map and enough time to build momentum. Nature’s Prophet and Templar Assassin allow him to accelerate quickly, while Weaver and Slark give him more freedom to enter fights early. His Weaver performance against Aurora remains the perfect example: farmed, aggressive, and completely in control when qualification was on the line.
