Why Pick Up Partisan's Brand?

Partisan's Brand is the most honest Tier 3 neutral in Dota. No conditions, no thresholds, no internal cooldowns to worry about. You pick it up; you deal 9% more spell damage to every hero and summon on the enemy team, forever. That's it.

9% sounds small until you think about what it actually does in a teamfight. If your hero is dealing 1,500 total spell damage in a fight, Partisan's Brand just added 135 free damage to that number. Across a 40-minute game with dozens of fights, that compounds into kills you would not have gotten, heroes who survive with 50 HP instead of dying, ultimates that do not finish the job. The numbers never lie, and 9% on a spell damage core is never going to be a wasted pickup.

What makes this item underrated is that it applies to player-controlled units too—not just heroes. If you are playing Warlock with Golems, Chen with dominated creeps, or Enigma with Eidolons, every single one of those units deals 9% more spell damage. That is a team damage multiplier disguised as a personal item.

When to Grab Partisan's Brand?

Any spell damage core in the Tier 3 window. Queen of Pain, Leshrac, Lina, Death Prophet, and Skywrath Mage—if you are the hero killing people with spells, you want this. No exceptions, no overcomplicated conditions.

The only real question at Tier 3 is whether something else in the pool is more situationally powerful. Versus heavy physical lineups or when you need survivability, another Tier 3 might serve you better. But against a standard lineup where your job is to deal spell damage and kill people? Just take it.

Tips & common mistakes

  • Do not overthink this one. I see people dropping Partisan's Brand for fancier-looking neutrals that have more moving parts. A passive 9% spell damage amp that works on every spell, every fight, with zero conditions, is almost always more valuable than a conditional item you only get value from half the time.
  • It applies to Aghanim's Shard and Scepter upgrades too. If your hero's upgraded ability is the most impactful part of your kit—and for many heroes it is—that 9% applies there as well.
  • On heroes that deal mixed damage, remember the 9% only applies to the spell portion. Right-click damage is untouched. On a pure spellcaster, this is irrelevant. On a hybrid like Razor or Dragon Knight, the value is lower—but still real on everything spell-based.

Summary

Partisan's Brand is the Tier 3 neutral you grab when your job is killing people with spells and you want to do it better. No tricks, no setup required. 9% more spell damage every fight, from the moment you pick it up. Sometimes the best item is the simplest one—and this is exactly that.
