Death Prophet

Krobelus was a Death Prophet--which is one way of saying she told fortunes for the wealthiest of those who wished to look beyond the veil. But after years of inquiring on behalf of others, she began to seek clues on her own fate. When death refused to yield its secrets, she tried to buy them with her life. But the ultimate price proved insufficient.

Death disgorged her again and again, always holding back its deepest mysteries. Her jealousy grew. Others could die for eternity--why not she? Why must she alone be cast back on the shores of life with such tiresome regularity? Why was she not worthy of the one thing all other living creatures took for granted? Still, she would not be discouraged.

Each time she returned from the grave, she brought a bit of death back with her. Wraiths followed her like fragments of her shattered soul; her blood grew thin and ectoplasmic; the feasting creatures of twilight took her for their kin.. She gave a little of her life with every demise, and it began to seem as if her end was in sight. With her dedication to death redoubled, and no client other than herself, Krobelus threw herself ever more fervently into death's abyss, intent on fulfilling the one prophecy that eluded her: That someday the Death Prophet would return from death no more.

When to Pick Death Prophet?

Pick Death Prophet when the enemy team has no real answer to a hero that just walks at them, silences everything around her, and then summons an army of spirits that drain the life out of every hero and building unfortunate enough to be standing nearby—because when the conditions are right, she is one of the most oppressive mid heroes in the entire game.

She is situational right now, and I want to be very clear about that, because if you pick her into the wrong lineup, she is just a slow, relatively squishy hero that the enemy mid will bully out of the lane and never let her reach the item timings she desperately needs. But in the RIGHT draft? She is an absolute nightmare that ends games before the enemy team even realizes what is happening to their base.

She is disgusting in lineups that have strong physical damage dealers that love to fight around Exorcism—Faceless Void, Tidehunter, and Magnus—heroes that can lock the enemy team in place while Death Prophet's spirits drain every single HP they have left.

She thrives against lineups without reliable silences of their own, because silence is her best defensive tool, and if the enemy can't shut her down before she starts channeling, they are going to spend a very miserable seven seconds watching their HP bars disappear.

She pairs beautifully with heroes that have strong initiation and can force the enemy to stand and fight—Earthshaker, Enigma, Sand King—because Exorcism does its best work when the enemy team is grouped together and unable to just walk away from the spirits chasing them down.

Avoid picking her into lineups with a lot of magic resistance and mobility—Rubick, Puck, Storm Spirit—heroes that can just dodge around her, reflect her spells, or completely negate her damage output with the right items. Also feels genuinely terrible for Huskar, because that hero laughs at magic damage, runs straight through her Silence, and kills her before Exorcism even gets three ticks off.

And if the enemy mid is a strong lane bully that can deny her levels and farm in the early game—Viper, Queen of Pain, Lina—she will never reach the timing she needs to matter, and the whole game will feel like an uphill battle from minute one.

Tips & common mistakes

 • People pop Exorcism and then stand in the BACK of the fight like they are a ranged carry. That is completely wrong — the spirits travel with you and deal more total damage the closer you are to the enemy. Walk INTO the fight with Exorcism active and watch the spirits shred everything around you.
 • Silence is not just a defensive tool — it is your best offensive setup in the laning phase. Use it aggressively on the enemy mid to deny them their escape spells and then walk at them with Crypt Swarm to force them completely out of the lane.
 • Exorcism spirits damage BUILDINGS too. This means you should never waste an exorcism just killing heroes when you can be hitting the enemy base at the same time—always position yourself near a tower or barracks when you channel it so the spirits do double duty.
 • Withering Curse combined with Exorcism is absolutely devastating, and people forget to use them together. The attack speed slow and damage amplification during Exorcism make every spirit hit significantly harder—cast it on the enemy carry at the start of every fight without exception.
 • Stop building death Prophet is like a pure magic damage dealer every single game. Eul's Scepter is not optional on this hero—it gives her mana, setup into Exorcism, and most importantly a way to survive being jumped before she can do anything. Buy it early and buy it every game.
 • You are not as tanky as you look. Yes, exorcism heals you back through the spirits returning—but if the enemy bursts you down in the first two seconds before the spirits come back, that healing means absolutely nothing. Build HP items and don't walk into fights without your team ready to peel for you.
 • Crypt Swarm is your best farming tool in the early game, and people underuse it completely. Clear the wave quickly, secure your bottle rune trips, and never let the enemy mid-level you—because a Death Prophet that falls behind on levels is just a slow hero with a mediocre silence and nothing else to offer.

Summary

Death Prophet is a hero that wins games in the most oppressive way imaginable — she silences your spells, walks at you with an army of spirits draining your HP, and simultaneously destroys your base while your team is too busy trying to survive to do anything about it.

She is situational because she needs the right draft, the right matchup, and the right player to truly shine—but when all three of those things come together, she is one of the most suffocating mid heroes in the entire game. Pick her into lineups that can lock the enemy in place, build Eul every single game without exception, and walk. INTO the fight with exorcism active like the terrifying ghost lady she was always meant to be.

Just don't pick her because you think she looks cool into a Huskar and a Viper—because that is a fast way to spend forty minutes being bullied out of every fight and watching your Exorcism tickle heroes that genuinely do not care about magic damage.
