Beastmaster

Karroch was born a child of the stocks. His mother died in childbirth; his father, a farrier for the Last King of Slom, was trampled to death when he was five. Afterward Karroch was indentured to the king's menagerie, where he grew up among all the beasts of the royal court: lions, apes, fell-deer, and things less known, things barely believed in. When the lad was seven, an explorer brought in a beast like none before seen. Dragged before the King in chains, the beast spoke, though its mouth moved not. Its words: a plea for freedom. The King only laughed and ordered the beast perform for his amusement; and when it refused, struck it with the Mad Scepter and ordered it dragged to the stocks.

Over the coming months, the boy Karroch sneaked food and medicinal draughts to the wounded creature, but only managed to slow its deterioration. Wordlessly, the beast spoke to the boy, and over time their bond strengthened until the boy found he could hold up his end of a conversation. He could, in fact, speak now to all the creatures of the King's menagerie. On the night the beast died, a rage came over the boy. He incited the animals of the court to rebel and threw open their cages to set them amok on the palace grounds. The Last King was mauled in the mayhem. In the chaos, one regal stag bowed to the boy who had freed him; and with Beastmaster astride him, leapt the high walls of the estate, and escaped. Now a man, Karroch the Beastmaster has not lost his ability to converse with wild creatures. He has grown into a warrior at one with nature's savagery.

When to Pick Beastmaster?

Pick Beastmaster as mid or offlaner when your team needs strong lane dominance, map control, and fast tower pushes. He feels really good in 7.41a—the summons hit hard, Wild Axes clear waves fast, and Primal Roar creates perfect fight setups. Great against lineups with weak wave clear or multiple melee heroes that like to clump up. He shines when you can take early objectives and your team has late-game carries that need space.

Avoid luring him into heavy kiting or silence lineups that can easily dispel your boars or lock you down before you land a good Roar. He also feels bad against strong single-target bursts that delete your hero or key summons quickly. In this patch he still needs time to hit his Blink Dagger and Aghanim’s Scepter timings, so don’t pick him if the enemy pushes super early or if your team plans to play very

Tips & common mistakes

 • Use Wild Axes aggressively in lane to harass and clear waves — don’t just sit back and wait for summons to do everything.
 • Micro your boars properly—they give vision, damage, and tank space, so stop letting them die for free.
 • Don’t jump in with Primal Roar without Blink or setup — wait for the moment when you can stun multiple heroes or isolate their carry.
 • Rush Aghanim’s Scepter after early items in many games—it speeds up your farming a lot with the Drums of Slom aura and attack stacks while making your summons and team hit much harder.
 • Build Blink Dagger shortly after Aghs in most games—the combo lets you land perfect Roars and start fighting.
 • Position your summons smartly to block paths and scout the map instead of only using them to fight.
 • Sometimes go for Crimson Guard or Pipe instead of pure tank items — it depends on what the enemy is building.
 • Watch your mana early—Beastmaster runs dry fast if you spam Wild Axes and summons without Arcane Boots or Soul Ring.
 • Use the Inner Beast aura to boost your whole team’s attack speed during big pushes and fights.

Summary

Beastmaster is a strong lane bully and map controller who dominates early with summons and pushes towers like crazy once he gets rolling. Play aggressively, get your levels fast, rush Aghanim’s Scepter to farm faster and power up your team, then grab Blink and force objectives. He rewards good micro and fight timing—if you control your boars well, land solid Roars, and use the Drums of Slom aura properly, you can snowball the mid game hard.

Just don’t pick him and then play scared or waste your ultimate on the wrong target.
