Centaur Warrunner
It's said that a centaur's road is paved with the corpses of the fallen. For the one called Warrunner, it has been a long road indeed. To outsiders, the four-legged clans of Druud are often mistaken for simple, brutish creatures. Their language has no written form; their culture lacks pictographic traditions, structured music, formalized religion. For centaurs, combat is the perfect articulation of thought, the highest expression of self. If killing is an art among centaurs, then Bradwarden the Warrunner is their greatest artist. He rose to dominance on the proving grounds of Omexe, an ancient arena where centaur clans have for millennia gathered to perform their gladiatorial rites. As his fame spread, spectators came from far and wide to see the great centaur in action. Always the first to step into the arena, and the last to leave, he composes a masterpiece in each guttering spray, each thrust of blood-slickened blade-length. It is the poetry of blood on steel, flung in complex patterns across the pale sands of the killing floor.

Warrunner defeated warrior after warrior, until the arena boomed with the cheering of his name, and he found himself alone, the uncontested champion of his kind. The great belt of Omexe was bestowed, wrapped around his broad torso, but in his victory, the death-artist found only emptiness. For what is a warrior without a challenge? The great centaur galloped out of Omexe that day with a new goal. To his people, Warrunner is the greatest warrior to ever step into the arena. Now he has set out to prove he is the greatest fighter who has ever lived.

When to Pick Centaur Warrunner?
Pick Centaur when your team desperately needs a frontline that can initiate, survive everything thrown at him, and bring his entire team into the fight with one button. He is situational right now—and I want to be very clear about that—because in the wrong draft he is just a big slow horse that the enemy kites to death without breaking a sweat. But in the RIGHT draft? He is an absolute menace.
He is disgusting in lineups with strong follow-up damage dealers—Lina, Zeus, and Gyrocopter—heroes that just need to be delivered into the perfect position to destroy everything, because that's exactly what Stampede does. He thrives against right-click-heavy lineups too, because Return punishes every single auto attack they throw at him and makes the enemy carry genuinely regret their life choices.
He pairs beautifully with heroes that have strong AOE—Enigma, Tidehunter, Magnus—because one Stampede into a Black Hole or Ravage is just game over for the enemy team. Avoid picking him into heavy kiting lineups with lots of slows and disjoints—Windranger, Puck, Ember Spirit—heroes that will just dance around him all game and never let him actually connect.
Also feels terrible to play against Slark, because that hero removes your Return passive, and suddenly your whole identity as a tanky damage-reflecting monster just disappears completely.
Tips & common mistakes
- People use Stampede as a pure escape tool when they are losing a fight. That is the WRONG mentality—Stampede is an initiation tool first and an escape tool second. Use it to go IN, not just to run away.
- Double Edge is your biggest damage source, and most people completely underuse it in the laning phase. Yes, it hurts you too — but the damage it deals to the enemy is worth it. Stop being scared of your own spell.
- Return only works when you are actually taking hits. Don't build a glass cannon and expect Return to carry you—build strength items so you have more HP to tank more hits and reflect more damage back.
- Hoof Stomp into Double Edge is your bread-and-butter combo. If you are not doing this in every single fight, you are leaving so much damage on the table it's embarrassing.
- Stop building Centaur like a pure tank with zero mobility items. Blink Dagger is not optional on this hero—without it, you are just a slow horse that never reaches anyone.
- Stampede has a really long cooldown without cooldown reduction. Boots of Bearing or Octarine Core are not luxury items—they are how you get your game-changing ability back faster and actually matter in extended fights.
- Don't initiate alone thinking you are unkillable. Without your team ready to follow up on your stampede, you are just a big target that burns all your cooldowns for nothing.
Summary
Centaur Warrunner is a hero that completely changes the dynamic of a teamfight when picked correctly—one Stampede into the right position and the enemy team is already half dead before they even realize what happened. But he is situational for a reason, and if you just throw him into any draft because he looks tanky and cool, you will spend the whole game chasing heroes that don't want to fight you and accomplishing absolutely nothing.
Pick him smart, build Blink first, and make sure your team has the damage to finish what you start—because Centaur delivers the package, but someone still has to open it.
